We'll start with the various types of irons:
1) get one with an automatic shut off feature
2) it should have adjustable heat setting
3) get a cordless model - they're easier to work with
4) get one with adjustable steam settings - it makes it easier to get rid of tough wrinkles
5) get one with a non-stick bottom
Never leave your hot iron unattended and never use one near children.
6) get one with a big water tank that is also see through
7) get one with an anti-calcium filter
*** Super Tip: When your iron's jets get clogged up, use a toothpick or a needle to gently clean them out when the iron is cold and not plugged in.
8) get one that can use water out of the tap
9) get one that feels good in your hand and is not too heavy
*** Super Tip: If your iron becomes clogged then fill it while it's cold and not turned on with equal parts white vinegar and distilled water. Then hold it over the sink with the vents facing down and run it until the steam runs out. If your iron gets clogged up a lot, then you might want to use distilled water in it on a regular basis.
1) get one that can be easily folded up and stored or one that is wall mounted
2) get one that is as wide as possible
3) get one that is the perfect height (waist level)
4) get one that is lightweight
5) get one that is sturdy and stable
6) get one that has venting holes in it
7) get one that is non-stick or reflective
8) you might want one with a sleeve attachment and an iron rest
***
Travel Tip: When traveling, keep clothes looking good by spraying them
lightly with cool water and using a flat surface, use the back of your
hand to smooth them out.
How To
Iron Pants:
1) fill the iron with water
2) choose the right heat setting
3) follow the instructions on the clothing label
4) turn the pants inside out
5) do a test on a small part of the material to make sure the iron is not too hot
6) start from the top of the pants and work your way down
7) turn the pants right side out and do the waistband, pockets and so on
8)
hang them
as soon as you're done
9) always place a clean
cotton cloth on any delicate or expensive material before you begin
ironing
*** Super Tip: Always hang a freshly ironed piece of clothing immediately after ironing.
1 ) check the garment label for fabric type and recommended temperatures
2) Use a cool setting for silk or polyester, medium for wool and high for cotton
3) place the tie lengthwise (bottom up) on the ironing board
4) place a damp cotton cloth over the area to be ironed
5) start at the bottom and work your way up
6) Don't leave the iron in one spot too long
7) repeat the process with the tie face up
8) hang the tie immediately
----------------------------------------------
1) Don't plug in the iron until you are ready to start ironing within a few minutes
2) Shut off the telephone, lock the door and take a few deep breaths
3) Make sure the lighting in the room is not too harsh
4) Look at each piece of clothing as special. Each one has to be ironed in a special way. They each need a different temperature setting and a unique technique.
5) Iron your clothes when they are a little damp
6) Follow the directions on the clothing labels
7) Clothes should be hung as soon after ironing as possible to avoid wrinkling.
8) Just as you separate your clothing for the wash, you should separate for ironing too
9) Always start with a lower temperature than you think is necessary and work your way up
10) Never touch the iron with any part of your body
11) To test the temperature, sprinkle a little water on the bottom. Don't use your finger
12) Be careful not to burn your clothes
13) Use long, slow strokes when using a steam iron
14) Always turn your clothing inside out when ironing
15) Always keep all zippers closed
16) Use an extra cotton cloth between the iron and a delicate blouse, suit or pants
17) When ironing a shirt, begin with the bottom side of the collar, then the shoulders and then the sleeves always folding along the seam. Then move to the button side up (it must be unbuttoned at this point) and make sure to position each section carefully...
18) When ironing pants remember to turn them inside out and start at the top working your way down. Follow the creases. Do the cuffs last. Hang them as soon as you're done.
